If you're interested in some backstory to this, Kaworu says "In other words, I love you" to Shinji during the bathroom scene in episode 24; that same line can be found in the original song In Other Words (made famous by Frank Sinatra as Fly Me To The Moon), an extremely romantic song which happens to be the anime ending also. Enjoy!
